Question:
Does John Locke/Jeremy Bentham come back alive in season 5? (Lost)?

As you all will know, if you watched the season 4 finale of Lost, the last scene shows John Locke, dead, in a coffin. What I want to know, is, if Jack and Ben take him back to the island like Ben suggests, does he come back alive? The reason I'm thinking this is because, surely they won't kill him yet, he has a very important role in Lost. What I think might happen is the same that happened to Jack's father, Christian Shepard. When he came to the island in a coffin, Jack finds the coffin but it's empty, but, you start to see Christian later on in season 4 alive and well, I'm thinking that maybe this might happen to Locke and anyone else who is brought to the island dead. Anyone else agree? :)

We saw Locke dead in a "flash forward". He is not dead yet in present island time... so he will be in Season 5, if that is what you are asking.

There's a lot more to tell with Locke/Jeremy Bentham. What happened on the island that convinced Locke to leave the island to persuade the Oceanic 6 to go back. How did he leave? So there will be plenty of Locke in season 5 before we learn how he came to be in a coffin.

If he comes back to life, something like that I couldn't imagine happening until season 6. And the door seems open for it, since Ben thinks the body needs to be returned. The will of the Island is becoming a big element in the show and if it wants Locke's body back, what plans does it have for it?

Why did the writers pick the name Jeremy Bentham? Historically Jeremy Bentham was a prison reformer and he is most remembered for designing a type of prison. The panopticon is a type of prison that allows an observer to see the prisoners without the prisoners being aware that they are being watched. Does this sound kind of familiar? Bentham lived two hundred years ago.

In answer to your question, I think that on the island there is a very thin division between the living and the dead. It has something to do with the physics behind whatever ancient technology existed on the island before the Dharma initiative or the Black Rock arrived.

You notice that right before the bomb went off Michael was hearing whispers and then suddenly Christian appeared.

That is a good theory.. I think some of the people that answered are not getting what your asking... and thinking you are wondering about flashbacks in season 5 & him coming "back to life:"

but no, absolutely.. I can't see them making Locke into this huge major character - especially now finding out he is basically the new leader of the Others, to just kill him off... and show us all flashbacks and that's it! I think he very well could come back to life, which is perhaps why they are dragging the body back -- TO bring him back to life, maybe Ben knows he has to convince Jack to drag John along --Ben knows he will come back to life & knows this is necessary as someone like Locke is a great protector of the island..

Hmmmmm... I dont know if I can wait any longer til the next season ;)

Christian was not alive and well. It's not like he came back to life. He just appears as a spirit/ghost/angel.

But I believe the whole thing w/Locke being "dead" is a ploy to get everyone back to the island and once they arrive they'll find Locke there, alive & leading the Others. I don't know how they did it.... maybe it's a dummy in the coffin or maybe they accomplished it through time travel, but guess we'll find out next year.

The Island has a connection with Locke. Just as The Island healed his paralysis instantly, Jacob will bring Locke back to life when he arrives back on The Island. In Season 5 we will see the events that lead up to Locke finding the need to leave the island to bring back the Oceanic Six.

he's definitly gunna be there for season 5 because 1) he still has a contract for another couple years and 2) because he died in a flashforward so he will definitly be in the next season to at least show how he dies and how he leads the island which i guess was going through bad times. what i personally think is once they take him back to the island, he will come back to the life because im pretty sure the island is behind the rest of the world timewise. example - john could walk once he landed on the island but he couldn't before he landed.

I really like to think that he'll magically come back alive if they return to the island, but I don't really think he will.

If you remember, Christian, Jack's dad, is now a free roaming character on the island. I don't think that Christian is alive, but instead, he's like a ghostly character. That's what I think will happen to Locke. I think that he "disappear" somehow and become a ghost and haunt the Oceanic 815, especially Jack.

It's weird. Christian's been popping up on the island only to Jack in the early Season 1 seasons and he hasn't been seen again until Season 4, popping up to John and Michael and a few others.

You know, I give up trying to understand this show before it's revealed to me. I think I'll wait and let them explain this stuff to me. It'll take me weeks to put the pieces together!
