episode. well, i've thought some more about this. and jimmy was just ready to go. he was deeply emotionally and physically scarred from WW 1. his wife was murdered, he killed the commodore, he's messed everything up with nucky and pretty much everyone else. that's why he ripped up the will for the commodore, going to that black maid, because he said if i die it goes to my son, and gillian said "heaven forbid that will happen." it was like jimmy was making atonements for his past descretions, getting everything in line to die. also, remember when he delivered the KKK guys to chalky? instead of giving only 3k per man to chalky and gave him 5k, and chalky seemed a bit puzzled by that. i just caught that as i watched it again, little clues like that. also trying to spend some time with his son at the pony ride, telling him what he would do on hot days, like giving him fatherly advice, and then giving his son the dog tags. also, when he knew where manny horvitz was, and when richard asked to come, he told him, no, i'll do this myself richard. and before that, it was like he was saying goodbye to richard when telling richard to really try to come back (meaning, come back in your mind from WW 1) and try to get on with your life, cause jimmy knew he had messed things up too much with his own life. also, he didn't want his son to get killed either, and not to inherit the money, so, jimmy was the sacrifical lamb. and showed up at the meet in the rain, with no gun, and no boot knife to a hit that the audience thought he was going to to whack out manny. he was actually going there knowing nucky was never going to forgive him (remember earlier in the episode, richard said to jimmy, "he's never gonna forgive you" and jimmy said, let's get a steak. it's like jimmy was at peace. i just don't get it though, i'm puzzled why it had to end this way. i figured at least he'd have a gun and kill that son of a ***** manny horvitz who murdered his wife, and then maybe nucky would've shot him, but no, i guess manny lives, jimmy dies, crazy.
what do you think?
