Wow! Great memories of "Weird" on Channel 13, Houston, Saturday nights at 10:30. This was during the early through the late 1960s.The opening music was a creepy Theremin piece I can still whistle. An announcer would introduce the movie (just a voice over if Im not mistaken) and say "Weeeiiiirrrrdddd". I don't remember "Late Weird", but I was quite young and had to go to bed before that would have come on.

Some titles I remember -

Them, The Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Thing, The Beginning of the End, The Blob, Caltiki, Attack of the Mushroom People, Day of the Triffids, and many many more...

Some were kinda Gothic horror movies from the 1930s and '50s, but most were 1950s drive-in fare.

Anything with atomic bomb induced mutations made the grade for "Weird".

Channel 13 had some great shows back then. Remember "Kitrick"?

I remember Weird. It came on late at night on channel 13 KTRK TV when I was young. It is somewhat reminiscent of Elvira or Mystery Theater 3000, in that it featured old macabre type horror films that they showed on Television. I must be a glutton for punishment, because it scared the daylights out of me as a youth. I think that most kids enjoy the thrill of being scared in like fashion to the scary exhilaration that one gets from riding a roller coaster. At any rate, I know that if I watched it today, the only way that I could experience the fear factor again would be to pretend very hard that I was a kid again, and try really hard to block out any real since of sophistication that most of us have developed over years of experience. The kid in me would like to see Weird again for old times sakes. I am a classic Television buff at heart. I prefer old shows to most things I see on a set now days.

Yes, I was a big fan of WEIRD when I was a tweener and early teen. And I was going to say that the opening really set the tone for what followed (thank you, Russ Garcia!). Anybody here remember that the filmed sequence of the opening featured Seymour s flying saucer fully ablaze (a prop from the Cadet Don show). I liked it when they would show later movies, Corman and AIP, low budget wonders. I could almost always count on a chill from whatever movies were shown because it was so late -- the witching hour!

By the way, I was always grateful to channel 13 for showing a "Dragnet" (original 50s) after Late Weird. It really helped me to lose the fright that I had built up watching a night s horror.

Found this post while attempting to find at least the intro on YouTube. "Weird" was a Saturday night treat for me and my siblings. We huddled in front of a small black and white set and were already spooked by the time the intro was played. I tried to emulate the dark, creepy atmosphere one night and realized our new big-screen, LED lit TV's just put out too much light so we settled for watching a DVD outdoors on a laptop.....wasn't the same. I always thought Boris Karloff gave an introduction?

It looked like an inkspot with an eye in the center. It aired on Fri nights at 10:30pm, It was not called "Something Weird", which was an entirely different, goofy show. It was named simply "Weird". And a deep voice would say w-e-i-r-d right before the image went all juggly, shaky faded away.

Every Saturday night after the local news. Late Weird was on afterwards.

They showed old horror films. Some from the thirties, some only a few years old. Late Weird started around midnight.

I remember fondly and loved the show. I lived in Beaumont and could only see it occasionally when atmospherics allowed or when visiting Houston friends & relatives. Was very envious of Houston viewers. We had nothing local.

I searched internet for the name of music; best answer-the “Weird” theme was from the album “Frozen Neptune” by RUSS GARCIA

See http://bill37mccurdy.com/2010/08/21/early-houston-tv-programs-personalities/ and search "weird"

You can find Frozen Neptune on Youtube. Regards

I loved Friday and Saturday night sci-fi/horror t.v as a kid in the late 70's and early 80's.I don't recall the name of the show. I just remember a man's face lookin' wide eyed and horrifed and sayin' something like," Oh no..it's happening again" (I can't be too sure about the qoute though) and then his face would fade into a skull's face. Anyone know the show and if their is maybe a clip online anywhere?

Yes, remember the show well. I coukd only stay up and watch it if someone stayed up with me-usually my great aunt or grandmother. Saw that the movie, Hypnotic Eye, is coming on cable. I still remember scenes from it. It was scary for a 7 year old! Can't wait to watch it now to see how corny it will be.
